If you see this message, instead of a large eyeball, your browser does not support the World Wide Web Consortium's Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) specification (which dates back to 1999), and therefore you will not be able to play this game. Maze Wars SVG

“Maze Wars SVG” is a game inspired by the very first 3D, first-person, networked multi-player game, “Maze War” which was created in 1973 by Steve Colley, Howard Palmer and Greg Thompson for the Imlacs PDS-1. This version is implemented using modern web technologies (server-side: Java; client-side: XHTML, Javascript, Ajax, and Scalable Vector Graphics) and therefore can be played by anyone using a modern web browser like Safari, Chrome or other WebKit-based browsers, and Firefox.

Strictly speaking, this implementation is a re-creation of what the author can remember of the original, non-commerical Macintosh “Maze Wars” game, circa 1987 (author unknown). That circa 1987 Macintosh game must have been inspired, directly or indirectly, by the original “Maze War,” which makes this implementation not so much a child of the original “Maze War”, as a grandchild, or great-grandchild.

In any case, Maze Wars SVG attempts to be true to its ancestors by resisting the temptation to (knowingly) add new features that would meaningfully change the game play, which sets it apart from many of the descendants of “Maze War” that have been created over the decades.
